With the latest model Audi S3 you notice that there is a more angular grille featured, LED headlights, LED taillights, and vibrant turn signals that light up in an outward sweep pattern when they are activated. The S3 comes with a capable turbocharged 2.0-Litre four-cylinder engine delivering 292 horsepower, is smooth revving, and serves up swift acceleration. The good proportions are accentuated by a trunk-lid lip spoiler.
The only transmission on offer is a six-speed dual clutch unit with the same kind of creep as a regular automatic. There is a Sport mode included that keeps the transmission in lower gear and aggressively downshifts when slowing the car. There is also a Comfort Mode and a Dynamic Mode for minimizing the gas-lag when you accelerate from a standing start.
The Interior Touches
The inside of the car is equipped with most of the Audi signature feel of premium interiors, coming with leather upholstery and brushed aluminum trim on the doors and dashboard. Unfortunately, the soft-touch dash does have a rubberized finish that doesn't feel up-market, and the lower part of the door panels are made out of hard plastic that also cheapen the whole effect. The other features in the cabin do however deliver a more luxurious feel such as the optional Virtual Cockpit digital instrument screen that comes with bright clear graphics.
The four-door, five-seater Audi S3 has a comfortable interior without a lot of space to move about once you are seated as headroom is limited. Manually adjustable Sport seats are standard but there is the option of having S Sport seats that come with side bolsters and power-adjustable lumbar support to keep you in place when the car is turning corners. The back seat cushion is on the low side but the backrest is capable of folding down flat with the cargo floor extending the ten-cubic-foot trunk to accommodate more parcels or luggage.
Keeping You Safe on the Ride
Standard features in the Audi S3 are Forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, as well as front and rear parking sensors and a backup camera, a big help when reversing. Optional offers include a blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. The S3 received a five-star overall rating - the highest possible score - from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for Front-and-Side impact crash performance and rollover resistance.
