The LaCrosse’s mild hybrid combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with a small electric motor sourcing power from a 0.45-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The electric motor is provided extra torque under acceleration as it is too small to power the car on its own.
LaCrosse eAssist Powertrain Standard for 2018
The 2.5-litre eAssist powertrain is now standard on all versions of the Buick LaCrosse
, other than those equipped with all-wheel-drive. This means the 3.6-litre V6 engine and its new nine-speed automatic will be an option on the Preferred, Essence, and Premium trim levels, while the base LaCrosse trim will be eAssist only. The all-wheel-drive option, that was previously only available on the top Premium trim level, is now offered on the V6-equipped Essence. The electric motor that is not strong enough to power the Buick LaCrosse on its own provides extra torque under acceleration and helps smooth out the start/stop system that shuts the engine off when stopped.
The LaCrosse's hybrid setup combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with a small electric motor that sources power from a 0.45-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The total power output is 194 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque. Regenerative braking is also included for 2018, with the six-speed automatic transmission being the only transmission choice. The LaCrosse is available with three new exterior colours to choose from, Satin Steel Metallic, Red Quartz Tricoat, and Dark Slate Metallic.
About the Cabin
The interior is fitted out in the way that you would expect from a flagship sedan, it is quiet, comfortable, and well-equipped. There is keyless open and start, and the controls, as well as the eight-inch IntelliLink touchscreen infotainment system, are simple to use. Standard is Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 4G LTE connectivity. However, automated emergency braking and adaptive cruise control are optional. The Buick LaCrosse comes with 8-way power adjustable heated and ventilated leather-appointed front seats.
The rear 60/40 split-folding seat has plenty of room for leg movement and for allowing an easy pass-thru from the trunk when hauling long items. There is a front centre console that includes an open pass-through beneath the shifter giving extra storage space. As well, there are two covered cup holders in the console, and the rear is comfortably equipped with two armrests. The high-end trims have advanced electronic features available as options.
A feature of the Buick LaCrosse cargo area is the inclusion of a cargo net that helps protect the trunk's interior as well as protecting the cargo from any potential damage. The net is also useful for securing smaller items in the cargo area. When not needed, it is easy to remove and to store.
