The 2016 redesign of the Chevrolet Malibu saw it gain its first dedicated gas-electric hybrid model. The previous generations of the car had only presented a toned-down hybrid system that offered slight economy benefits. However, the 2017 Malibu Hybrid has turned this around, with an EPA-estimated 4.80 L/100 km city driving; 5.47 L/100 km on the highway and 5.11 L/100 km combined.
The Hybrid version of the Malibu offers a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine with direct injection and a two-motor hybrid system. It's added to with a continuously variable automatic transmission and a lithium-ion battery pack. Reportedly, this Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid system is capable of operating in electric-only mode up to 90 km/h.
