Revel in the decadence of the Fiat 124 Spider, the sports car which offers a hint of retro design. A high-quality interior coupled with a sharp performance on the road for the ultimate two-seater.
Fiat 124 Spider: The Two-Seater You've been Waiting for
Fiat has a long history of creating memorable two-seater sports cars and with the Fiat 124 Spider, they've created yet another one.
Low slung and sexy, there's more than a hint of retro styling about the Spider, such as the swallowtail rear wings, but it's bundled with a whole host of contemporary accessories to offer a comfortable ride.
Under the hood, Fiat has opted to include a 1.4 litre turbocharged Multiair in either 138 or 168 horsepower configurations. The turbo helps to minimize the need to constantly change gear, but when you do, there's a six-speed manual transmission. Drivers can opt to switch to an automatic transmission paired with the same engine if preferred.
The low styling of the car looks good but it can make entry and exit more challenging, particularly for taller drivers. A sloping windscreen and long side doors also add to the difficulty of making a graceful entry and exit.
High Quality is Evident
Once you're behind the wheel of the Fiat 124 Spider you won't fail to be impressed by the sheer quality of the workmanship that's gone into the interior. From the hand finished stitching found on the leather steering wheel to the soft touch dash, every element screams elegance and expense.
The fabric roof provides the ability to quickly convert from one mode to another but it's a manual operation rather than electronic although it is aided by an excellent spring assisted mechanism.
The infotainment console can be found in the centre and when parked can be used as a touchscreen but on the move must be operated via a dial. This offers Bluetooth, satellite radio, USB ports and Bluetooth connectivity. Elsewhere in the car, the entry model comes with air conditioning, a speed limiter, cruise control and alloy wheels.
There are three trims available, the Classic, Lusso, and Plus, and as you move up through them, further features are added. These include adaptive LED headlamps, automatic lights and wipers, fog lamps, chrome exhaust tips and heated leather upholstery.
Sporty but Safe
Although the Fiat 124 Spider is primarily marketed as a sports car, there's no chance that you'll be slung around as if you were on a racing track. ABS and traction control come fitted as standard and with no option to switch them off, Fiat is determined to keep their customers safe.
Keyless engine starting and entry, satellite navigation and rear parking cameras can all be added for further driver convenience too.
The Fiat 124 Spider will seduce any driver who appreciates a retro design, offering a sporty appearance, sassy styling and a performance that's hard to match
