Enjoy an Italian affair with the small but smart Fiat 500 A retro styled car with contemporary features, it's the perfect car for moving around town in style.
The Fiat 500: A Fun and Funky Choice
If you're looking for a car that is fast and easy to manoeuvre on the road, and you don't need bucketloads of space then the Fiat 500 is a great pick.
With a curvy and attractive exterior, there's more than a touch of retro styling about the design which will appeal to drivers looking for a funky appearance in their car. Based on the much more basic Panda but given a wholesale facelift, the Fiat is only available with three doors.
However, there's much more below the hood with a range of different engines to suit all driving conditions. If you're planning on sticking to driving around the city then the 1.2 naturally aspirated gas provides enough power and speed. If you're more likely to be traveling long distances or driving on the highway regularly you might prefer the diesel engine as it offers more torque. There's also an innovative Twinair 0.9 Litre engine which provides a comparable performance but better fuel economy than the 1.2 Litre.
Elegant Italian Style
The 500 was originally launched in the 1950s and the modern day interpretation has more than a passing nod to the very first design with a whole host of retro styling. This is never more evident than in the names of the trims available: Pop, Pop Star, and Lounge. There's also some special edition trims and the model you select will determine the exact range of features and accessories included.
The Pop is the entry-level model and lacks some of the luxuries of the other trims but still includes electric windows and mirrors, USB port and audio controls on the steering wheel. Trade up to the Pop Star and you'll find a chrome exterior, sunroof, cruise control and a touchscreen radio. There's also parking sensors to make manoeuvring much easier. The special editions each offer different features such as the quirky folding fabric roof on the 60th and two-tone paint on the Riva.
One of the most original features on the 500 is the ability to choose a second skin as a "wrap". This means you can have panels of different designs, allowing drivers to have a car covered in butterflies if they so choose!
Small and Safe
Fiat has a number of safety features fitted as standard across the range including ABS and Isofix fittings for child seats. A clever feature is the automatic trigger for the hazard lights which come on to warn traffic behind if the driver suddenly has to brake hard. Elsewhere in the cabin, there are driver, side, passenger, knee and curtain airbags to provide maximum protection.
The Fiat 500 is full of original design features and although it's not brimming with cargo space it's a great choice, particularly for a city car to use on everyday journeys.
