Appreciate the Space with the Ford Freestar Minivan
Previously known in the North American market as the Windstar, the Ford Freestar is a front wheel drive minivan which offers bucketloads of space inside. Manufactured in Ontario, the Freestar is based on the Ford V Platform with a Mustang engine. A four-speed transmission comes as standard together with the choice of either a V6 3.9 litre or V6 4.2-litre engine. Ford enthusiasts might recognize some elements of the Freestar from the Five Hundred, as they share the same tall silhouette and large headlights, plus a distinctive grille. Space is the highlight of the Freestar with four-door entry and three rows of seating. The third row has undergone a radical redesign and now folds seamlessly into the footwell, creating a flat space for cargo. Clever engineering means the head restraints don't need to be removed first, instead of sliding into the seat back. Access to the rear of the vehicle can be enhanced with optional power sliding doors.
Functional with Features
Minivans aren't traditionally renowned for being loaded with features and the Ford Freestar doesn't have as many luxury extras as other types of Ford vehicles. Nevertheless, there are still a number of comfort features available, particularly on some of the higher trims. Passengers will appreciate the fact that there are nine cupholders which are sturdy and solid, with captain chairs available on the SEL and Limited trims. There's also an optional DVD entertainment system for the rear seats plus various audio packages offered. The interior feels well designed and spacious with various little storage cubby holes located throughout the vehicle, including a lidded bin. No more trash thrown on the floor or stuffed into pockets!
With such a large vehicle capable of carrying heavy cargo, safety is an essential aspect and Ford offers a number of additional enhancements. Along with the standard factory airbags, drivers can opt for the full-length curtain airbags to provide superior protection. ABS is fitted with all trims but AdvanceTrac can be added to the entry-level models, the Ford system for extra stability on the road. The Safety Canopy can also be added to all Freestar vehicles, a network of sensors that detect a roll and keep airbags inflated to prevent injuries while the vehicle is on its roof. The Ford Freestar offers a number of improvements on its predecessor without compromising on the cargo and space. Easy to configure into different seating arrangements and with lots of room, this minivan is an excellent choice.
