Ford Transit Connect

If you need to transport cargo or lots of passengers, take a look at the Ford Transit Connect. More compact than some other Transit vans it offers great value and strength.

Ford Transit Connect: Offering Cargo Capacity and Top Performance

The Ford Transit Connect is part of the popular range of Transit vans, offering storage in a vehicle that handles well on the road too. The Connect is the smaller sibling to some of the other Transits, providing a more compact van which doesn't compromise on comfort inside.

The minimum payload is on the shorter wheelbase, with a volume of 2.9 cubic metres and 630 kg. This can be increased on the longer wheelbase, especially if you choose the High Payload Modification. This offers a payload of more than 1000 kg and a volume of 3.63 cubic metres.

If you prefer a diesel engine, there are choices in the 1.6 litre which offers 74 horsepower, 94 horsepower or 113 horsepower. As an alternative, there's also a gas engine, the 1.0 litre EcoBoost, which is surprisingly speedy on the road despite its small size.

Variable Dimensions Inside

Despite being smaller in size generally, the Connect is still available with a range of different lengths. Two different wheelbases are offered alongside a full-window combination model which is suited to vehicles carrying more passengers, plus a Double Cab which seats five.

The cargo area can be extended by folding seats, with a number of different variations available in each van. The lower bulkhead also has a hatch which allows longer items up to three metres in length in the shorter wheelbase or 3.4 metres in the longer wheelbase to be transported.

LED lighting can be added and with a construction made of steel, there's a strength to the body where needed without making the vehicle particularly heavy.

Safety while Transporting Cargo

The safety of its vehicles has always been of paramount importance to Ford and the Transit Connect has a number of extras which provide a degree of reassurance.

City driving is made easier with the inclusion of a low-speed autonomous braking system, the first van in its class to offer this. ABS, an electronic safety system, cruise control, six airbags, rear parking sensors, cornering headlights and automatic wipers are all included on various models.

Security is also a high priority for the Connect, which will be a comfort to drivers with valuable cargo inside. If the doors are unlocked but none are opened within 45 seconds, the vehicle will automatically relock, a useful feature. Immobilisers and powered deadlocks are fitted as standard together with a Thatcham approved alarm on higher trims.

The Ford Transit Connect is a sleek and more compact van in the range, but still offers considerable capacity inside and is flexible enough to transport both cargo and passengers in comfort.
