If you’re in the market for a large SUV, the Hyundai Palisade is a model you might want to check out. As a three-row SUV, it’s a vehicle that’s not short on space, making it ideal for large families who want to enjoy a practical space that luxurious too.

Styling

Unlike a number of other cars in its class, this isn’t a sleek and curvy model but a car that has angles in all the right places, with an overall silhouette that could be described as boxy. Fans of a squared-off shape will view the styling as understated and elegant.

The headlights and tail lights are all LED and there are daytime running lights too. The dual-panel sunroof provides plenty of light and air to the cabin while the smart power liftgate is convenient and practical.

The front grille dominates the appearance from the front but it’s proportionate to the overall dimensions of the car.

Performance

Under the hood, there's 3.8L, V6 engine that delivers 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. The eight-speed transmission is automatic but paddles on the steering wheel allow the driver to shift gears manually too. It comes with front-wheel drive as standard but it’s possible to upgrade to four-wheel drive on all trim levels, an essential choice for more rural locations.

The Palisade is ready to hook up to a trailer and can comfortably accommodate up to 2000kg without suffering any loss of power.

Interior and Accessories

The Palisade is Hyundai’s upgrade to their Santa Fe XL, and it’s a bigger sibling in every direction. The Korean automobile manufacturer has stretched the limit of this SUV which is at the very top end of a mid-sized model. The seven seats are spread over three rows and the whole layout of the cabin feels spacious and comfortable. There are sixteen cupholders in total around the interior with individual climate control in the rear seats.

Each seat has its own USB port and there’s a quiet mode that switches off the rear speakers if your passengers want to enjoy some peace. If parents in the front want to be heard by their children sitting in the third row, the intercom system known as Driver Talk will be invaluable. The seating can be reconfigured with a rear bench seat that offers power-folding and middle seating that can be moved forward with just the press of a button.

Behind the front seats, there’s a total of 2435 litres of space which decreases to 509 litres when all three rows of seating are in position. There is a handy space below the load floor which is perfect for wet or muddy items.

Drivers will appreciate heated seats, keyless entry, a space-saving centre console and multi-terrain control modes.

Safety

The Hyundai Palisade has been named as a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety which is confirmed by the array of equipment inside. Forward collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control all come as standard. One of the smart features offered by Hyundai is the inclusion of Safe Exit Assist which checks for vehicles approaching your car from the rear. When detected, it prevents your doors from being opened until the vehicle has passed.

Summary

If you don't want to sacrifice luxury for space, the Hyundai Palisade will hit the mark. Delivering comfort as well as luxury, there’s everything that both driver and passengers could want. With large windows, four-wheel drive and no shortage of space, this vehicle is perfect for a family adventure.
