Kia Rio

The Kia Rio is a small car which is generously equipped and provides a luxurious ride for both driver and passengers. With a top-notch performance and whisper quiet engines, the Rio scores highly in every category.

The New Challenger: The Kia Rio

The Kia Rio falls into the small car category, delivering a very viable alternative to some of the more well-known vehicles in this category. With a solid on the road performance, a spacious interior and economical running costs, the Rio is a real contender.

There’s the choice of both gas and diesel engines, starting with a 1.2 Litre gas which delivers 83 horsepower and moving up to the four-speed automatic which couples with the 1.4-litre engine, offering 98 horsepower. An alternative is the 1.0 litre which pairs with turbocharging to boost power and deliver more speed while producing 99 hp. If it’s a diesel you prefer, there’s the choice of two 1.4 litre engines which offer either 76 or 89 hp. It’s worth noting that the diesel is only available on the mid-range trim upwards.

The engine has three cylinders and especially with the turbocharge you’ll find that it’s not only quiet but also has barely any vibration, a big benefit in the small car category. The steering is light while the springs are quite firm, helping the car to feel sporty while cornering yet remaining very stable.

Getting Comfortable

The driving position in the Rio is excellent, and even the steering wheel can be adjusted making it a comfortable fit for drivers of all sizes. The controls on the dash are easy to use while driving and the visibility is excellent due to the minimized front pillars and flatter windows. In the rear visibility is aided by a camera and parking sensors; these are included in all models apart from the entry-level trim.

The infotainment system included in the vehicle depends on the trim you’ve chosen but even at the base level, there’s Bluetooth compatibility. At the higher end, there’s a larger touchscreen and satellite navigation.

In the rear, the seats split 60/40 as standard but it’s in the trunk that the Rio stands out. As well as having the most space of all the comparable vehicles, the trunk also has a number of different hooks and other attachments to make it easier to transport goods (such as shopping) without spilling it all as the car corners.

Enjoy Peace of Mind

Safety is a priority for many drivers and Kia has made this an important aspect of their design. Included in the Rio you’ll find ABS, electronic control system, vehicle stability management, emergency braking, electronic brake force distribution and hill assist control. These are included on every trim level, including the entry LX model.
The Kia Rio is a fun and well equipped small car which is perfectly positioned to mount a real challenge to some of the more established competitors. Surprisingly spacious but with excellent features too, this is a small car with a big attitude.
