Land Rover Discovery
Take a drive in the Land Rover Discovery and experience what it's like to ride high on the road with real power under your wheels. Tough, strong and practical, the Discovery also offers excellent handling and performance together with copious space inside.
Land Rover Discovery: Redefined for the Next Generation of Drivers
Originally launched in 1989, the Land Rover Discovery is often described as the landmark vehicle, paving the way for all future 4x4s. A squared off design inspired by the Land Rover, the Discovery is a beast of a machine, offering unstoppable power coupled with admirable styling and endless space. With the squared off lines softened into curves, the modern Land Rover has an aesthetic appeal as well as being practical, with enough space for seven adults to sit in comfort. Three rows of seating sit in front of a trunk with a capacity of 258 litres. This is a fairly modest size, but if you lose the last row of seating you'll find the dimensions quadruple. Losing around 450kg in weight has meant that the Discovery has improved on fuel economy, by downsizing the engine without losing any of its guts. The entry level is a 2.0 Litre diesel which is more powerful than it sounds, providing 237 horsepower and decent acceleration. Those expecting to be towing heavy weights or regularly traveling with a full load capacity might appreciate the 3.0 Diesel, coupled with the same eight-speed automatic transmission. There is also a 3.0 litre gas version, but the fuel economy on this is inferior compared to the diesel models.
A Luxurious Ride
A body height of two metres means that you'll notice the dimensions if you try to whip around corners too quickly but there's a number of driver aids to improve comfort. Like all vehicles, the trim you select will define what features are included. The Discovery has a great range of extras designed to protect and relax both passengers and driver. An infotainment system is included across the board, with the higher trims benefitting from a larger 10-inch screen. There's a chilled drinks compartment, four-zone climate control and seats which not only heat and cool but also massage.
Staying Safe Behind the Wheel
Land Rover hasn't skimped on safety and the Discovery has a long list of features which are included as standard on every model. These include ABS, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and curtain airbags that run along the whole length of the vehicle as well as the front, passenger and side airbags. Optional safety technology available includes adaptive cruise control, allowing your Discovery to respond to traffic conditions on your behalf plus an innovative tiredness detection system. The Land Rover Discovery is one of the largest SUVs on the road and yet it also delivers a dynamic handling performance and comfortable ride, allowing it to keep its position as the top pick.
