When looking for the most reliable Mercedes-Benz out there that doesn’t have to be the absolute best looking at the same time, pay close attention to the wildly popular and reliable B-Class. Among the most affordable of its family members, the Mercedes-Benz B-Class is a smart investment first and foremost. As such, the compact, boxy and practical B-Class is a perfect choice. While not one of the most attractive vehicles on the road, it’s practical and manages to incorporate something of the hatchback into its design. While drivers all over the world are somewhat flummoxed by its design, its manufacturers have dubbed it a “Sports Tourer” – which does little to clear up the confusion.
A Genuine Road Rocket
The B-Class comes with heaps of speed thanks to a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and Mercedes' seven-speed automatic transmission. Keep in mind that this engine also requires premium fuel. Power output for this slick little urban runabout is set at 208 horsepower, with an impressive 258 lb.-ft. of torque. This is enough to whip it from a standing start to highway speed in about seven seconds. Compared to some other similarly conceived models, it's a genuine road-rocket.
As you would expect from a Merc, the B-Class handles well, showing sharp steering and a firm set in the corners. The engine and transmission are a match made in heaven, making even a drive to the grocery store a pleasure. Feeling adventurous? Then change to Sport mode to get a more exhilarating ride. If you want to travel more economically, however, opt for Eco mode which will switch off the engine while you’re stationary and automatically restart as soon as your foot hits the accelerator.
Luxury And Style As You’d Expect From A Mercedes
The shape of the vehicle is a little boxy for some tastes, but it houses a wide range of state-of-the-art features that more than make up for its appearance. According to Mercedes, the B class is “a cool and stylish car” which they hope will appeal to a younger generation of drivers. The features reflect this intention, with carefully designed headlamps complete with LED enhancements; a sporty façade; a satin aluminum and chrome trim; and a full set of alloy wheels. The cabin is designed to make the driver feel pampered, settling its travelers in comfortably padded seats and soft-touch door panels. Key areas on the dashboard and instrument panel are rimmed with a thick inlay, and the attention to detail transforms the cabin from the ordinary to the luxurious. The Real Question Is Why Not Invest In One Among the many optional upgrades available in the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, the Versatility package includes a driver’s seat with inbuilt power lumbar support, rear-view and side mirrors that will automatically soften the glare of bright lights, and a clever rear storage system. This new design from Mercedes features a floor that can be adjusted to accommodate your load, a passenger seat that folds flat and rear seats that can be slid out of the way to make room for bigger items. These add to the vehicle’s overall versatility. There is absolutely no reason to ponder investing in one when you consider everything you’re getting.
