On the other hand, a car exists primarily as a means of transport from point A to point B, which makes it a necessary evil for many. Owning a four-wheeler can be costly and nerve-racking, but there’s also another side of the story. If you’re tight on funds and would still like a reputable machine that comes with a pedigree of durability and usefulness, then, by all means, pay close attention to the Mitsubishi Mirage G4. You Say “Underpowered,” Mitsubishi Says “Affordable”
The Mirage G4 makes due with 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated gas engine that puts out a conservative 78 horsepower. There’s not really that much to say after such a statement, other than the fact that it makes a decently fuel efficient car. While the power of the G4’s engine might not be all it takes to sway you into thinking about getting one, there is still the fact that its fuel economy is rated at 6.4 litres per 100 kilometres combined. That’s a very respectable statistic for a sedan of the G4’s. But, it gets better.
A Completely Workable Car in an Urban Setting
The handling is definitely one of the upsides of spending time in the Mirage G4. The steering has plenty of feels, believe it or not, and is very responsive and direct. In-town manoeuvres are easy to carry out thanks to a very good 9.2-metre steering radius. Also, the tall roof makes for more than decent visibility around the car, and there’s even a rearview camera to provide assistance should you need it. The fact that the Mirage G4 is viewed as an entry level car would trick many into believing the ride is very brittle. This is not the case as the G4 works well in urban settings, though the engine might motivate you to steer clear of highways for the time being. City surroundings, on the other hand, are where the G4 does some of its best work.
Good Looking Enough From All Angles
Essentially, the styling of the Mirage G4 makes it a car that’s fairly easy on the eyes. While the front fascia and headlight lenses are reminiscent of a particular competitor, there’s plenty of stylistic substance to be found throughout the exterior of the G4. Examples include 15-inch alloys with a spiralling spoke design, faux-aluminium fog light surrounds, as well as side creases. The interior is far from premium, but surprisingly well thought through and functional. A piano black finish adorns the centre stack, shifter surround and steering wheel inserts. Also present are wheel-mounted infotainment controls and a chunky wheel rim with thumb grips. The gauges have chrome bezels and the infotainment system, complete with the 6.5-inch touchscreen display, are borrowed from the magnificent Outlander crossover.
There’s plenty that’s good and right about the Mitsubishi Mirage G4. Examples of the package are the handling, interior tech, cost of entry and astonishing warranty (10-year/160,000 kilometres on the powertrain, 5-year/100,000 kilometres bumper-to-bumper). If you’re an optimist at heart and prefer usability and low maintenance cost over power, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t consider the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 as your new four-wheeler of choice.
