If you need a pick-up truck that’s strong, sturdy and versatile, check out the Toyota Tundra. Available in a range of styles and trims, it’s a good fit whether you need something that’s capable of going off-road, hauling heavy loads or simply making your way around town while looking elegant.

This is no diminutive copy; the Tundra is a full-size pick-up and is available with a number of different cabs: regular, extended double or the Crewmax. Added to this is the option of three different bed lengths and two wheelbases and you have a vehicle that you can customize to precisely meet your needs.

Two-wheel drive is standard but it is possible to upgrade to four-wheel drive if you prefer. There’s a six-speed automatic transmission plus the choice of two engines: the V8 4.6 litre or the V8 5.8 litre. The former has the ability to tow up to 6800lbs while the latter can tow up to 10,800 lbs.

Surprisingly Luxurious

It may be a pick-up truck designed to be tough and strong, but that doesn’t mean that you have to completely forego comfort and luxury inside the cabin.

The Tundra has an excellent range of comfort features and is generously equipped, even on the entry-level trims. The Entune is the infotainment found on board, and this incorporates touchscreen controls. Higher trims have larger screens with a greater selection of functions.

The seating you have depends on the wheelbase and cab that’s selected but in general, the interior is roomy with lots of legroom for passengers. Inside you’ll find additional storage space for more valuable items such as tools that you don’t want to store on the flatbed.

Driver aids available include cruise control, heated mirrors and front fog lamps.

Strong and secure

The Tundra scored pretty well in safety testing and has a range of features designed to help keep the occupants of the truck safe.

ABS, traction control, a rearview camera, stability control, trailer sway control plus front and side airbags come fitted as standard on all models. Higher trims also include parking sensors and a blind spot monitoring system too. Other additional features include a Lane Departure Warning system, emergency autonomous braking, low-pressure tire warning and a pre-collision system. An immobilizer helps to protect against theft and there’s also remote keyless entry and a panic button too.

The Toyota Tundra provides an enormous amount of options to configure the truck of your choice, without forcing you to forego a touch of luxury inside. Tough yet comfortable, it’s the pick-up truck that ticks all the boxes.
