Electric Cars are the Modern Way to go for City Driving
The 2017 two-seat Smart Fortwo Electric comes as a coupe, or convertible, and will take you anywhere you want to go in the city. The Electric Drive is available in Pure, Passion and Prime trims. You have no parking problems with the Fortwo as it fits snugly into those spaces that bigger cars cannot even attempt to try. Furthermore, it can turn in a very small circle, as well as zealously hopping over bumps, and the suspension is quite comfortable. Smart Cars are known to have passed the highest global crash and passenger safety test standards, ensuring a safe and pleasant driving experience. The electric car version joined the Smart lineup during 2011.
Coming standard on the Fortwo is the ability for iOS and select Android Smartphone users to download a free Cross Connect app that controls the phone, audio, internet streaming radio, vehicle information and a navigation system. The Passion trim gives you alloy wheels, black exterior accents, heated and power-adjustable mirrors, a height-adjustable seat for the driver and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The interior comes with contrasting coloured upholstery, as well as added storage in the centre console. There is also a retractable cargo cover. Prime version smartens up the Fortwo further with silver exterior trim, cornering lights, fog lights, automatic headlights and wipers, leather upholstery, heated seats and soft lighting in the interior.
What to Expect from Fortwo Electric for 2018
The new version of the Smart Fortwo electric car for 2018 is a snappy beefy-looking number that comes with many individual options. A great selection of colour choice is available, and the part of the body visible through the sheet metal (Tridion safety cell) can be painted the same colour as the car as well, or else, you can have it in a contrasting colour.
The eighty-horsepower electric motor comes mid-mounted and produces 118 pound-feet of torque that goes 96 km in 11.7 seconds, and the top speed is governed at 130 km/h. It could go faster but higher speeds would severely cut into the range.
Charging the battery
According to Smart, the electric Fortwo can travel 112 - 128 km before a recharge is necessary. For a full charge, it must be connected for three hours to a 240-volt outlet.
Otherwise, it can be plugged into a household 120-volt plug, but this will take 16.5 hours for the battery to recharge.
