CBB Best Residual Value Awards Highlight Shifting Market Dynamics in 2026

February 12, 2026 (Markham, ON) – Canadian Black Book, the leading provider of Canada’s used vehicle valuation data and residual value forecast solutions, today announced its 2026 Best Residual Value Awards, recognizing vehicles and brands projected to retain the highest percentage of their original MSRP after four years.

The Residual Value Awards are based on Canadian Black Book’s proprietary forecasting models, which evaluate expected value retention by analyzing historical depreciation trends, market conditions, brand strength, and supply-and-demand dynamics.

Now in its fifth year, the awards have recognized 15 vehicles and five brands across 20 categories, reflecting continued shifts in consumer preferences, powertrain adoption, and segment-level performance. SUVs, trucks, and electrified vehicles remain central to the market, while established nameplates continue to demonstrate durability in long-term value retention.

The 2026 awards project residual values anticipated in 2030. This year’s winners were announced at the 2026 Canadian International AutoShow during media day on February 12 in Toronto.

In the Overall Brand categories, Toyota earned the Overall Brand Award: Car for the fifth consecutive year and the Overall Brand Award: SUV/Truck for the fourth year in a row. Porsche maintained its strong presence in the luxury segment, while Volkswagen was named Most Improved Brand Award.

Several brands and vehicles continued their strong performance from prior years. Toyota led all manufacturers with wins in seven categories, while Porsche captured four category awards. For the second consecutive year, the Volvo V60 earned top honors as Luxury Car, and both the Kia Sorento and Lexus NX Series remained category leaders in mainstream and luxury plug-in hybrid segments.

Repeat category wins underscore the growing importance of proven nameplates with established resale strength. Vehicles such as the Volvo V60, Kia Sorento PHEV, and Lexus NX 450h+ continue to benefit from stable demand and competitive positioning within their respective segments.

“Today’s brand strength continues to be tested as consumers seek out the highest value models in each segment. With loyalty consistently falling away, they look for the best mix of affordability and lowest cost of ownership,” said Daniel Ross, Senior Manager, Industry Insights and Residual Value Strategy, Canadian Black Book. “As electrification builds within the market offering, strength in retained value transitions. Our Residual Value awards recognize these trends and reward the early front-runners.”
